I can only deplore the ignorance of Dhruv Rathee on the Indian History. He needs to educate himself on both the Mughal and Maratha periods. He knows precious little, if we set aside his cursory reading of Romila Thapar and Govind Pansare who also tended to see it all through a narrow ideological prism. Of course the Hindutva historians have also got it wrong and I am not surprised that the BJP leaders have used it for communal propganda during this election campaign. Both Shivaji and Aurangzeb were complex figures and their words and actions were often ambivalent and even contradictory. it takes a lifetime of reading history to follow it properly. Meanwhile do spare us the immature opinions of this young man masquerading as real history.
